The man was born on 18th October 1950 in Ambala. He studied in Punjabi medium school and couldn't speak English or Hindi early on.
When he was just 6 years old, he used to wash tea glasses on the roadside. That 6 year old kid later went on to become Om Puri in the Indian film industry. He revealed this fact on Anupam Kher's chat show.

Om Puri had complexity issues. He was never a conventionally good looking man plus, he came from a Punjabi Medium school. This caused Om to have complexity issues while acting in the National School of Drama.
Just when he was about to give up, his mentor Qaidi Saheb pushed him to improve his language skills and then he went on to work in more than 20 English films.
Om Puri's friendship with Naseer Sahab is not a surprise. Both of them studied acting together and became friends while studying acting. "It was Naseer who turned me into a non-vegetarian," Om Puri once said.
Both of them bonded over food and loved having dishes like brain curry. They have done tons of movies together like Aakrosh, Droh Kaal, Sparsh, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Ardh Satya, Paar, Mandi and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai.
Om Ji has worked in Hindi Television serials like Kakkaji Kaheen as a paan-chewing 'Kakkaji' and Mr. Yogi. These shows highlighted Om Puri's talent and made him a popular name on TV. He has also worked in the Aahat TV Series in some episodes during the second season. He even hosted Savdhan India’s second season.
